Seeking Atlantis

Portugal, Azores; October 2018

The Azores is one of the two autonomous regions of Portugal. It is an archipelago composed of nine volcanic islands in the North Atlantic Ocean about 1,360 km west of continental Portugal, we were able two visit two of the islands.

São Miguel, the main island with the capital Ponta Delgado, is rich of flora and hills. After visiting numerous waterfalls, after jet-skiing along the coast and visiting the only tee plantation in Europe we ended a day with motorgliding during sunset. Taking the ferry to the dryer sister island Santa Maria we discovered the typical red desert and prepared for our diving sessions. We finished the „Rescue Diver“ certificate after a few days and were congratulated with a family of enormous manta rays under water.

It has been an adventures sojourn and we plan to come back and explore more islands!
